High strain rate deformation behavior in a tungsten heavy alloy

摘要

The dynamic behavior of a tungsten heavy alloy(WHA) have been studied using an exploding bridgewire (EBW)detonator to load stress pulse onto the alloy plate. The particlevelocity at the rear free surface of WHA was measured withvarying the specimen thickness by a velocity interferometer systemfor any reflector (VISAR). Simple experimental technique has beenintroduced herein to obtain the Hugoniot elastic limit and spallstrength of metals. The peak pressure generated by the EBWdetonator has been exponentially decayed with increasing thesample thickness. The fracture behavior of WHA caused by thetensile stress pulse is similar to that due to the Charpy impact test.
