摘要

This editorial accompanies a set of manuscripts that are devoted to a common theme: the design, implementation, and evaluation of interprofessional education programs about providing patients with decision support in interprofessional practice settings. The manuscripts reflect the discussions that took place at a particular Dartmouth Summer Institute in the US that addressed this theme in 2008. Sixteen faculty and 67 selected fellows from 12 countries attended this Summer Institute. The overall purpose of the annual Dartmouth Summer Institutes on Informed Patient Choice1 is to identify and mentor the next generation of scientists who come from different disciplinary backgrounds and who are prepared to investigate key basic and applied problems in the field of patients' health care decision making - with a particular emphasis on the provision of patients' decision support (PtDS) using patients' decision aids (PtDAs).
