INFLUENCE OF PHEROMONE TRAPS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF YELLOW STEM BORER, SCIRPOPHAGA INCERTULAS WALKER ON BASMATI RICE

The population of yellow stem borer, Scirpophaga incertulas Walker was monitored in basmati rlce fields with farmers' sex pheromone traps throughout the kharlf 2003 crop season. The mean moth catch per trap per week showed two peaks - first (4.78) during 3rd week of August and second (9.77) during 2nd week of September. In basmati fields with pheromone traps, the dead heart incidence was iow (0.24-2.68%) as compared with that in the fieids with farmers' practices (2.53 - 7.69%). Similarly, white earincidence in the respective fieids was 2.27 and 16.92 per cent, respectively. The fieids with pheromone traps had net benefit of Rs. 772.00 per acre over the fields where farmers' practices were followed.
