Sorption of boron from solutions of boric acid by soil samples from twenty apple orchards in Grojec and Sandomierz regions, Poland, was investigated. In all soils the sorption conformed to the Langmuir's sorption isotherm over the entire range of Bconcentrations. Linear regression models showed that soil B sorption maxima were positively correlated with pH, clay content, organic matter, Mn oxides and cation exchange capacity. The results indicate that B fertilization on coarse textured soils should be applied more frequently at lower rates as compared to fine textured soils. The possible mechanisms of soil boron retention are discussed.
