Pneumococcal carriage and resistance in children attending day care centers in Singapore in an early era of PCV-7 uptake.

We read with interest the paper by Trotter et al. on invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in England and Wales in the pre-heptavalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV-7) era. We agree with the authors' recommendations on the need to understand pneumococcal sero-epidemiology before and after vaccine introduction. Such knowledge is crucial for the rational planning of immunization programs and evaluating the effects of such targeted interventions.
