Twelve W. somnifera (Ashwagandha) genotypes were selected for molecular polymorphism studies using 22 ISSR markers. Out of 22 primers screened, 17 primers produced amplification, while 5 primers did not show amplification in any of the genotype. A total of 64 clear and reproducible bands were obtained from 17 primers, out of which 42 (65.62%) were polymorphic bands and 22 were monomorphic bands. For the genotypes tested, 2 to 5 bands were obtained from various primers with an average of 3.5 bands per primer. The similarity indices for genotypes ranged from 0.02 to 0.8333. Wide range of similarity values suggested that selected genotypes of Ashwagandha represented a genetically diverse population using "Simqual" sub-program of Software NTSYS-pC. Results of 2D and 3D were correlated to clusters while 5 primers did not show amplification in any of the genotypes.
