There are 2 major issues related to the article by Hagert and Persson1 and its 2 companion articles.2'3 Neither concern relates to the research efforts of the authors, who have proven that, in the absence of sensory function of the terminal branch of the posterior interosseous nerve (PIN), motor reflexes related to wrist position are altered. My primary concern is that hand surgeons, hand therapists, and pain management doctors will hesitate to recommend removal of a source of pain if it originates in a peripheral nerve that innervates part of a joint.
