Introduction to 'Behind the shield: a perspective on H1N1 from the inner terrain'.

It seems that I receive hourly updates on the H1N1 virus. These come in the form of e-mails from a variety of sources. There appears to be a pattern of information that focuses on hand washing and vaccination. Occasionally, there are updates on the number of cases, the most recent one announcing the incidence of reported cases in our state university system. I just came from a faculty meeting where there was a discussion of our school plan for H1N1-the management of classes that might be cancelled as a result of an outbreak.
