Theoretical frameworks and concept development.

Concepts and theoretical frameworks provide a way in which to clarify and provide a foundation for practice and research in order to make the investigation meaningful and worthwhile (Rodgers & Knafl, 2000; Walker & Avant, 2005). Without this clarity, decisions about the research design and, later, the interpretation of the findings can become muddled. To achieve clarity, a variety of authors within nursing have proposed different processes and techniques for developing concepts. Evenso, concepts can range from the relatively empiric or directly experienced to the relatively abstract (Chinn & Kramer, 2004), which makes the process variable and challenging.
