Circumferential Avulsion of the Uterine Body from the Lower Segment During Cesarean Section:Complication of a Wedged Fetal Head

Background: Cesarean section in the late stages of labor, when there is reduced amniotic fluid and a deeply engaged fetal head, is associated with a high rate of maternal and fetal complications such as an extension of the uterine incision, trauma to the urinary tract, and fetal cranial injuries. However, complete separation of the body of the uterus from the lower segment has not been reported to date. Case: One such case with this complication during cesarean section for obstructed labor is presented and discussed. Conclusion: Various measures have been proposed to manage women with wedged fetal head in labor. However, not all measures are applicable to all cases and each case needs to be assessed and managed timely on individual merits.
