Savall et al. (1) recently described an interesting case of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. The jeweler described in the case developed Takotsubo cardiomyopathy after an assault, restraint, and confinement during the hold-up of his jewelry store. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is often triggered by acute stressful life events including death of a loved one, serious illness, significant accidents, or financial difficulties. An increased incidence of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy has also been reported in association with natural disasters (2). Although most patients present with an identifiable stressor, some series report no identifiable preceding physical or emotional stressor in up to 35% of patients (3).
