EFFECT OF SUGAR MILL EFFLUENTS ON THE PHYSICO-CHEMICAL NATURE OF WATER OF THE RIVER 'KUWANO' AT WALTERGANJ, BASTI, U.P

Data of the Physicochemical nature of 'Kuwano' river revealed that the sugar mill effluents created a heavy pollution load much above the toterance limit. Fresh water pollution mainly of the river 'Kuwano' is being caused by run off from house drains and street disposal from small and large scale industrial units situated nearby the river. The mill effluents of the Sugar Factory Govind Nagar Ltd., Walterganj, Basti (SFGNWB) are discharged into the river 'Kuwano' and affected badly the biotic condition of the river water. The polluted river water showed nil or low value of DO and free CO2 due to which water becomes highly polluted. The mill effluents of SFGNWB have formed anoxious conditions of 'Kuwano' river water. Thus the river water of Kuwano becomes unfit for fishes, cattles and human consumption.
