摘要

The introduction of Bt-cotton in India has been facing new problems with insect pest management in many parts of the country, mostly as a consequence of low insecticide usage. Among the sucking pests mirid bug, Poppiocapsidea (=Creontiodes) biseratence (Distant), has emerged as a major pest causing significant economic losses in recent years. It has become a great threat to cotton production in south India, particularly in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra states and gaining more importance during recent years. Mirid bugs are native to Australia, and are polyphagous with wide range of host plants. Information about this pest particularly on its biology, alternate hosts, seasonal incidence, laboratory-rearing techniques, loss estimation, distribution aAd species complex of mirid bugs on cotton and management on Bt cotton, morphological and biochemical basis of resistance, etc. have been reviewed and discussed here.
