STUDIES ON SOME BIOLOGICAL ASPECTS AND CONSERVATION NEEDS OF FRESH WATER CATFJSH, MYSTUS VITTATUS (BLOCH) IN EASTERN UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA

摘要

This study aims to provide information on some biological aspects of freshwater catfish Mystus vittatus (Bloch, 1794). M.vittatus is one of the commercially important catflshes and its food mainly consists of fishes, insects, green algae, blue green algae, diatoms and crustaceans. In present communication we also observed some other aspects such as maturity stages, spawning season and fecundity and conservation status of Mystus vittatus under natural habitat of river Saryu and 'associated water bodies in Uttar Pradesh.
