In this study, a fuzzy logic controller scheme is developed for a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) based wind farm to damp interarea oscillations. These oscillations are due to the dynamics of interarea power transfer in a large interconnected power network that can severely limits the system operations. To provide a safe operation for power networks, damping of these oscillations have become one of the main problems in the power system stability and have received a great deal of attentions. DFIG based wind energy system is the popular type of variable-speed generator used in wind power generation. It is very important to assess the role of DFIG on overall system transient stability. The auxiliary fuzzy damping controller, modulate reactive power in rotor side converter to damp interarea oscillations. Well-known two-area four-machine power system that has low interarea oscillation damping are investigated. Also, a comparison between proposed controller and conventional PI controller is performed. Simulation results in MATLAB/Simulink validate that fuzzy damping controller is more robust and effective for damping electromechanical oscillations.
