Assessment of certain pesticide residues in soil and on crops in an agriculture-field near Bikaner (Western Rajasthan), India.

Residues of the three pesticides viz., phosphamidon, carbaryl and malathion in soil became non-detectable after 20, 60 and 90 days respectively of spraying; while, on crops, phosphamidon persisted even after 15 days, carbaryl upto 15 days and malathion only for 3 days after application. The persistence of pesticides in soil and on crops would undoubtedly result in deleterious effect not only on the health of human but also on other livestock animals sooner or later suggesting that safe alternate methods of pest management must be adopted.
