The surface diameters of gas bubbles at the liquid-gas interface whose burst leads to the formation of aerosol from a thin surface microlayer of thickness 1 μm and less have been determined experimentally. Precisely the anomalous concentrations of such a microlayer are responsible for the fractionation of substances in the process of ocean-atmosphere exchange.
