Special issue editors' introduction: The interface between econometrics and economic theory

The objective of this special issue is to explore aspects of the interface between economic theory and econometrics and to promote more fruitful interactions among economic theorists and econometricians using the methodology of the statistics profession. Regarding this unusual collaboration among theorists and applied economists, it is worthwhile to observe that Charalambos Aliprantis is the Editor of the Springer journals, Economic Theory and Annals of Finance, and the Birkhauser Verlag mathematicsjournal, Positivity. William Barnett is the Editor of the Cambridge University Press journal, Macroeconomic Dynamics and the Elsevier monograph series, International Symposia in Economic Theory and Econometrics, Bernard Cornet is the Editor of Elsevier's Journal of Mathematical Economics, and Steven Durlauf is Coeditor of Wiley's Journal of Applied Econometrics and Editor of the next edition of the New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics.
