Electrocatalytic reduction of NO_3~- in a neutral solution on an electrodeposited filmof amorphous Pd_(33)Ni_(60)P_7alloy

An amorphous Pd_(33)Ni_(60)P_7 alloy was prepared by electrodeposition in a bath containing 0.02 mol L~(-1)PdCl_2, 0.04 mol 1)NiSO_4·6H_2O, 0.241)H_3PO_3, 0.32 3BO_and 0.08 L~(-ethylenedia-mine (C_2H_8N_2), under conditions of pH 4.0, 50 ℃ and 25 mA cm~(-2). The amorphous structure thePd_(33)Ni_(60)P_7deposit was confirmed with X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The activity of electrocatalyticreduction of nitrate on the amorphous Pd_(33)Ni_(60)P_7 deposit was studied with cyclic voltammetric (CV)technique in a neutral 0.1 mol L~(-1)KCIO_4solution with or without KNO_3. The results indicate that thePd_(33)Ni_(60)P_7alloy deposit exhibits a higher activity for the reduction of nitrate in comparison withthe electrodeposited films of Pd, Ni and Pd-Ni, which could be owing to its amorphous structure. There duction reaction of NO_3~- on the electrode is a totally irreversible process.
