Re-examining the reported observation and analysis in Wohlgeshaffen et al. (Journal of Applied Phycology 4(4):297-310, 1992) shows that their observed shellfish domoic acid (DA) concentrations do not support the reported 17%p"dp# depuration rate for blue mussels but instead support depuration rates of 87%p"dp# (fractional) or 200%/day (exponential). This error could have impacts for public health, shellfish management, and other biological research. This paper identifies a large underestimation in filtration efficiency in Wohlgeshaffen et al. (1992).
