Effect of Herbicides and Fertility levels on quality of American cotton (Gossypium Hirsutum L.)

Being widely spaced and slow growth during early stages, cotton crop gets heavily infested with a number of annual as well as perennial weeds. With the adoption of modern technology for its production, use of herbicides is becoming more and more popular. A number of herbicides like fluchloralin, flumaturon, pendimethalin, trifluralin etc. have been tried and found promising for the control of weeds in cotton (Brar and Gill, 1985 and Malik et at. 19S7). Among the macronutrients, nitrogen and phosphorus are most important which stimulate the physiological activities of the plants and induce coordinated growth. Imbalanced use of these, nutrients and improper weed management results in poor growth of the crop affecting the yield and quality characters of the crop. Therefore, the present experiment was carried out to study the effect of herbicides and fertility levels on yield and quality characters of American cotton variety HS-6.
