摘要

Cotton is one of the most important commercial crops of Andhra Pradesh. Of late due to various pest problems cotton cultivation in Andhra Pradesh has become more risk prone besides causing environmental hazards due to over reliance on chemical pesticides for containing the pest population. This has led to escalating input costs with meager net returns. So at this juncture, host-plant resistance is the ecologically sound approach negative to reduce the above problem. Several scientists reported the negative relationship of gossypol gland density to bollworm complex (Singh and Lal, 1984; Parrot et al., 1989; Punit Mohan et al., 1991, 1994 and Hedin et al., 1992). Since information on this aspect is scanty on gtended nature of upland cotton, a study was undertaken to elicit information on the nature and magnitude of genetic variation governing the inheritance of glanded nature in different plant parts of cotton.
