Association and path analysis in the selections made from colour tinted Gossypium hirsutum cotton germplasm

Fifty one single path selections of different colour linted genotypes of Gossypium were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications during kharif 1997-98. Analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among genotypesfor all the traits studied. High estimates of GCV, heritability and genetic advance were observed for seed cotton yield/plant, number of bolls/plant and plant height indicating that selection would be effective for these traits. Seed cotton yield/plant exhibited significant positive association with number of bolls/plant and plant height. Number of bolls/plant also exhibited positive and high direct effects on yield. It was concluded that number of bolls/plant was the most important component characterfor selection of genotypes with high potential of seed cotton yield.
