Traditional pesticide-an effective measure for pest control in cotton

Cotton crop is attacked by many insect pests. In India, most serious insect pests of cotton are : American bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera), Pink bollworm (Pectinophora gossypielld) and Spotted bollworms (Earias vittella and Earias insuland). Efficacyof various insecticides have been extensively studied in relation to bollworm control by several workers. However, very little attention in the past has been paid towards application of botanical pesticides for protecting cotton crop from insect pests (Metcalf, 1977; Punit mohan et al, 1994; Bambawale et al., 1995). In the present study, some commonly available plant species were screened to observe their efficacy under field conditions against sucking pests and bollworms in cotton.
