Intravitreal piperacillin/tazobactam in the management of multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa endophthalmitis.

The increasing incidence of multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacilli and the poor visual outcome despite prompt treatment with appropriate intravitreal antibiotic agents poses a significant challenge for the treatment of endophthalmitis caused by Pseudo-monas aeruginosa. The efficacy of intravitreal piperacil-lin/tazobactam has been studied in experimental P aeruginosa endophthalmitis. We report 3 cases of multidrug-resistant P aeruginosa endophthalmitis in which intravitreal piperacillin/tazobactam was administered.
