Laboratory experiments involving polymers are not represented in undergraduate curricula in proportion to the prevalence of polymer materials in modern society or the number of chemists that are polymer chemists (1). Polymerization reactions expose students to one aspect of polymer science, but providing hands-on experience in processing or characterization poses a difficulty because industrial equipment is designed to meet strict performance standards and is typically too expensive for instructional laboratories.
