Naming organic reactions,reagents,or even mechanisms after their purported discoverers has been a time-honored practice in organic chemistry education and research.There is a good reason for this in education as the names often provide a mnemonic for not one but a number of different reactions,substrates,and reagents.For example,an alcohol can lose the equivalent of a water molecule in the Zaytsev fashion,or the elimination of the same group of atoms can follow the Hofmann regioselectivity,to yield a different isomer of the alkene product.
