Airway management and lung isolation in a patient with a massive cavernous hemangioma of the tongue

INTRAMUSCULAR HEMANGIOMAS are common vascular tumors, yet only approximately 14% are found in the head and neck region.1 Invasive muscular hemangiomas are even more uncommon, making up less than 1% of these tumors, and massive cavernous variations are only described anecdotally.2 A unique risk to this lesion is uncontrolled hemorrhage, and several fatalities have been described.3 There is no detailed description of airway management in this patient population, and the present case report highlights important considerations in performing safe endotracheal intubation followed by lung isolation.
