Southwest U.S. ports are a vital supply chain link for nationwide logistics. International trade will continue to increase and to come through ports that have the capacity to serve the increasingly larger ships. Also increasing is the pressure on companies looking to improve their time-to-market. When those factors are combined, companies with supply chains that stretch from Asia to the U.S. Midwest and East Coast are looking for efficient and dependable logistics. And that is how ports in the Southwest U.S. are presenting themselves - as a vital link in the supply chain with connectivity to get products to end markets. Despite upgrades at ports along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts in response to the expansion of the Panama Canal, ports in the Southwest U.S. have no intention of ceding business. They have made - or are in the process of making - large-scale upgrades to ensure that future capacity needs are met.
