It has been an eventful period for world trade and the supply chains that support it Some of the events were welcome while others were not In looking at the people, places and things affecting supply chains, influence or potential influence count Here's the good, the bad and the ugly; some items enjoying a repeat visit and others present for the first time. Freight transportation rarely gets the big headlines, nor does legislation related to the industry. With a logistics spend of over $1 trillion, it accounts for less than 10 percent of the gross domestic product. The fragmented structure of the industry often means there is little concentration of influence when it comes to advocating for legislative and regulatory positions that are positive for the industry. Yet, U.S. domestic and world trade commerce are dependent on infrastructure and the impact of rules and laws on transportation. The call for increased advocacy has gone out from shipper groups and carrier organizations. Often working together, these groups have had successes in Washington D.C. They continue to seek participation from shippers and carriers alike.
