The blast furnace is called the most perfect machine to produce pig iron. Despite introduction ofalternative processes like shaft furnace and rotary kiln direct reduction, COREX, FINEX, HISARNA, etc., theblast furnace remains the major iron-making option for the large integrated steel works. Meanwhile, themini blast furnace (mini-BF) is ideally suited for small scale operations, becoming the economic and reliablesource of iron for EAF-based mini-mills.
