Ethyl levulinate and n-butanol are new alternative fuel which can be taken as additives to improve the environmental and dynamic performance of blend diesel fuel. Some experiments about different content additives were carried out, and the physical and chemical properties of alternative fuel formulas were studied according to China National Standards and Codes: GB/T25199-2010 biodiesel fuel blend (B5). The results showed that (1) there were no phase separation in all the alternative fuel formulas at 4 degrees C; (2) the n-butanol which has lower kinematic viscosity, had the greater effect to formulas than ethyl levulinate; (3) the close-cup flash points (CCFP) of n-butanol-diesel blended fuel were closed to n-butanol, and the content of diesel had little impact on their CCFP; (4) the temperature of 10% volume fraction distillation of n-butanol-diesel blends decreased significantly; (5) adding the same ratio of ethyl levulinate had major influence of the density of blended fuel, (6) there were no corrosive effect with adding of ethyl levulinate, higher corrosive effect with adding of high dose n-butanol and most corrosive effect using same content of biodiesel.
