Common snook [ Centropomus undecimalis ( Bloch, 1792)] preys on the invasive Amazon sailfin catfish [ Pterygoplichthys pardalis ( Castelnau, 1855)] in the Palizada River, Campeche, southeastern Mexico

The Amazon sail?n cat?sh Pterygoplichthys pardalis (Castelnau 1855) is native to the lower, middle and upper Amazon River basin (Burgess, 1989). This species is an invasive species in Southeastern Mexico (Wakida-Kusunoki et al., 2007; Wakida-Kusunoki and Amador-del Angel, 2008). The e?ects of its introduction include reduction of commercial ?sh species, alteration of bank structure and erosion (Nico et al., 2009), disruption of aquatic food chains (Capps et al., 2009), competition with native species, mortality of endangered shore birds (Bunkley-Williams et al., 1994), changes in aquatic plant communities, and damage to ?shing gear and industry (Wakida-Kusunoki et al., 2007).
