The effect of various forms of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) - salmon GnRH (sGnRH), mammalian GnRH (mGnRH), chicken GnRH-I (cGnRH-I), chicken GnRH-II (cGnRH-II) and GnRH analogue (GnRHa) - on the release of growth hormone (GH) was examined in vitro in primary culture carp pituitary cells. The GnRHs caused a dose-dependent release of GH. Release was highest after treatment with sGnRH, mGnRH, cGnRH-I and GnRHa at 10-6 M and with cGnRH-II at both 10-6 and 10-8 M. The maximum levels of GH werefound after 2 h with GnRHa and cGnRH-II and after 3 h with sGnRH, mGnRH and cGnRH-I.
