In a city that is facing so many serious issues such as a failing school system, record high unemployment, corrupt government, high rates of home foreclosure, and pet overpopulation, it is hard to imagine that one stray dog can make a difference. Detroit is such a city. In the face of hard economic times and the second highest crime rate in the country (Wilkinson, 2011), Detroi-ters continue to struggle and, as a result, many animals are left homeless. Of all the strays that lie dead in the streets and others who struggle to survive until they either meet that same fate or end up in a shelter, Heyseus has overcome the odds and now, through his testimony and work as a therapy dog, this once stray mutt has touched many lives and is helping to restorehope to people from all walks of life. This is his story.
