Sunphotometer measurement of aerosol optical depth and columnar water vapour at ber,switzerland

The Swiss Atmospheric Radiation Monitoring program (CHARM) coordinates a number of solar and atmospheric radiation monitoring tasks within the Swiss contribution to the WMO GAW (Global Atmosphere Watch) programme.An important objective of CHARM is to implement a network of instruments to measure radiation in the UV to IR spectral range,including sunphotometers (SPM).Four CHARM stations are presently in operation at varying altitudes in Switzerland (Jungfraujoch,JFJ,3580 m asl;Davos,1590 m;Payerne,490 m;Locarno,366 m).In addition,an SPM has been intermittently operated since 1992 at the University of Bern (560 m) and at other sites including the JFJ (Ingold et al.,2000;2001).Coincident,continuous measurements of aerosol optical depth (AOD) and columnar water vapor (CWV) have been measured at Bern since 1998 and are reported here.
