摘要

Owing to the quantity and chemical nature of hygroscopic materials in the atmospheric aerosol,particles may change phase and grow further by water uptake even below the saturation-100 % relative humidity-level.The ability for hygroscopic growth results in changes of different atmospheric processes as a function of ambient humidity conditions.It is well known that this aerosol property has important influence in cloud formation processes and controls the radiation transfer including visibility.Although hygroscopic behavior of inorganic compounds is relatively well understood,our knowledge on the water uptake of organic species is rather incomplete.According to different authors these compounds may enhance or reduce the water uptake of the particles.Particularly little information is available on the variation of hygroscopic growth of size selected particles with respect to their inorganic and organic composition.
