The majority of HIM professionals still practice in hospital settings and are most familiar with the HIM functions performed there. However, HIM professionals in hospitals frequently work with doctors in private practice, and HIM career opportunities may well grow in physician practices due to current legislative and public policy initiatives. For these reasons, it is important to understand the relevant HIM drivers and practices in physician offices.
