Transitioning to ICD-10-CM/PCS in the classroom: countdown to 2014.

THE COMPLIANCE DATE for the implementation of ICD-10-CM/PCS is due to take effect on October 1, 2014. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is in the process of making a final decision on the possible extension, with the ruling expected in early June. Currently, academic programs are in various stages of transitioning the classroom toward this new and long-awaited classification system.
