New Zealand's South Island and the70th International New Zealand RhododendronConference, Dunedin, October 2014

In October 2014, the New Zealand Rhododendron Association had its 70th anniversary, as did the American Rhododendron Society this past spring. Along with 32 other ARS members (see a brief summary in JARS 69, p 27), some of whom live in New Zealand, mywife Dorothy and I attended, and had a wonderful time. In this article I summarise our experience in more detail, and describe and show images of some of the amazing gardens we saw. This article will focus only on South Island (Fig. 1), as the pre-conference tour experience on North Island is being summarized in another article by Linda Derkach (p. 10).
