The authors described the diagnostic process, role of the multidisciplinary team, management of commonly experienced symptoms of ALS, psychological and financial impact on family caregivers, and options for end-of-life care.At the initial interview in March 2006, Dr SP was living at home with his wife and their adult son. The family had made numerous modifications to the house and a van to allow mobility and accessibility with a motorized wheelchair and other assistive devices.
