Hiroshi Fujimoto and William Golton, Chair and Vice Chair of the Subcommittee, announced that they plan to retire from active participation in D01 meetings after the next summer meeting in Vancouver in 2008. The ISO liaison for VOC group, G. Jenez-ic and H. Nissler, Co-Chairs, heard a presentation on the final draft of ISO 11890-2, GC Method for VOC Determination in Paints and Varnishes. The method is very similar to ASTM D 6886. The method utilizes a boiling point column to identify and quantify organic volatiles in waterborne paints. At the present time, the boiling point cutoff of a VOC is set at 250 °C, although there is discussion of moving the limit to 280 °C (Texanol bp = 252°C). Since June 2006 when this ASTM/ISO liaison was established, we have been exchanging notes on issues under consideration in both organizations.
