Global Demand Trends: OECD Weakness Erases Emerging Market Gains

Receding demand for jet fuel in the industrialized countries cancelled out gains in the developing world in September. That resulted in a slight decline in total consumption to around 3 million barrels per day among a group of representative countries. Liftings in the big US market fell by 2.7%, while demand in Japan shrank by another 7%. European consumption was flat, with a 7.6% drop in Germany offsetting a 5.6% rise in the UK. Demand in Australia-New Zealand climbed by 3.7%.
