North American Snapshot: Summer Travel Propels Rising Demand

The height of the summer travel season pushed up North American jet fuel demand by 6% in August to some 1.9 million barrels per day, with the big US market propelling most of the gain. US consumption climbed by nearly 7% to 1.56 million b/d amid unusually strong liftings at airports along the Gulf Coast. Mexican fuel usage advanced by another 13% after showing a 10% gain in the second quarter. Canadian demand was the only weak link, falling by 3% to 153,000 b/d in August.
