METI plant new setup to industrialize innovative technology

With the objective of making Japan's industries more competitive, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has drawn up plans to inaugurate a new project "Focus 21" (provisional title) to foster development of applications technology. The Ministry aims to work out concrete policies based on the "Six Strategic Ways to Raise Competitivenss" proposed by the Competitive Industry Strategy Council, and will put it into effect as a new project in fiscal 2003.
