Sony adopts biodegradable plastic composite for electronic device casings

By adding mica to poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) Sony has succeded in developing a composite material which meets the specification for electronic device casing material. PLLA is a biodegradable plastic made from starch, and as mica is also a common material existing in nature, the composite decomposes readily in the soil in a few weeks, thereby presenting an extremely small environmental burden.
