AGAINST THE STORM

Although Geometrica has been building industrial and bulk storage domes since 1992, its first foray into the electric power industry occurred just after the turn of the 21st century. In the wetlands of Florida, US, the Jacksonville Electric Authority (now known as JEA) needed to replace two aging, underutilised steam plants. The year was 2000 and circulating fluidised-bed technology was used to upgrade from oil/gas to solid fuels. Geometrica designed and installed two long span internally clad petcoke storage domes at the JEA facilities, which ultimately sparked interest from the waste-to-energy and biomass industries.
