South Africa, now the world's seventh-largest coal exporter, shipped a record 70.2 million t of coal from Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) over 2013. Details of shipments through the Durban terminal and via Maputo in neighbouring Mozambique are not yet available, but RBCT normally accounts for well over 95% of South Africa's coal exports. The 2013 shipments were 2.8% higher than the 2012 level. East Asia (China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan) was the largest destination for RBCT coal, receiving 28% of the coal shipped through the terminal. Europe was second, receiving 21% of shipments.
