The first step of building a drawing pen adapter required duplicating the shape of an original HP plotter pen. The plotter mechanism had no trouble plucking the solid plastic pen from the carousel, firmly gripping it, and replacing it in the same slot. According to a recently shredded piece of paper, back in 1985 I paid $1,592.43 for an HP 7475A plotter that drew schematics and presentation slides for many years thereafter. Inkjet printers and video projectors gradually took over those functions and, in a moment of weakness, I gave the plotter away.
