Two Phaoniine Species Reared from Pitchers of Nepenthes in Sumatra and Java, Indonesia (Diptera, Muscidae)

A new species and a little known species of Phaoniine muscid flies reared from pitchers of Nepenthes in West Sumatra and West Java, Indonesia, were examined and identified. A new species is described and male genitalia are illustrated. The previouslylittle known species, Phaonia nepenthincola STEIN, 1909, is redescribed based upon reared material for comparison. We had an opportunity to examine the four specimens of Phaoniine muscid flies reared from pitcher plants, Nepenthes rosulata and N. gymnatnphora by Dr. Motoyoshi MOGI, Saga Medical School during ecological surveys in Sumatra and Java, Indonesia. Examination revealed that two (male and female) of them were a new species from Sumatra and the other couple a little-known Javanese Phaonia nepenthincola STEIN, 1909. In this paper, we describe the new species and redescribe P. nepenthincola with photographs for comparison.
